Island Hopping: The Grenadines

Thursday, January 17, 2013

After a few set backs with the boat, we were ready to shift gears and get back into the enjoyment of our trip. Queue - The Grenadines!

There are 31 islands that make up the Grenadines in total and each is more tranquil and idyllic than the last. White sand beaches,  deserted islands, sky blue water and great underwater activities made our time exploring here one of our trip highlights so far.  This does attract quite a few boats though!
Admiralty Bay - Bequia
Catching up on world news in Bequia
Fresh seafood is a staple here - we have fisherman approaching our boat every day selling their latest catch of snapper, lobster and mahi mahi.
Views over Spring Bay on Bequia
Enjoying drinks and a lazy afternoon at boutique hotel - Sugar Reef

Charlestown Bay - Canouan
The beautiful reefs at Canouan

A little friend we met a long the way
The view from our boat at Saltwhistle Bay, Mayreau

 Sublime - The Tobago Cays

Swimming with loads of turtles in the Tobago Cays

Conch - a very popular local dish.  Beady little eyes!

 Iguana's abound on the islands!

A little lunch and relaxation at the exclusive and privately owned Palm Island

Union Island - Clifton Bay anchorage
Best vegetable market we've come across - all local and organic!
 Fresh kingfish
Union Island is very popular with kite boarders
View from our boat in Union Island - perfect for rum and coke sundowners!
We really enjoyed our time in the Grenadines.  The Tobago Cays were excellent, with loads of snorkelling and (Megan's favourite) many, many turtles.

We were a bit sad to head off for Carriacou and Grenada, but we have to keep moving forwards ... soon we'll be heading for our first long offshore passage to Bonaire where we're excited to meet our friends who are coming to join us for a week!
